Om Caksurdhehi: Let Me See Good Things
Photography is a meditative practice for me. It's my way of focusing on beauty, waking up to the moment that I am alive, zooming in and seeing tiny details that I would miss if I wasn't being mindful, and zooming out and seeing the big picture when I feel lost in the details. Much like yoga asana, I enjoy the process of framing the angles and alignment of my focus of interest, playing with the energy and balance of a picture, and sequencing images carefully to tell a story. Even my brain imaging research stems from this visual interest, delving into how to visualize the workings of the body and mind.
I feel so lucky to be inspired by my artistic family--this page is dedicated with gratitude to my parents. Thank you to my mother, MaryLou Sunderland, a brilliant watercolorist, and my father, Jim Sunderland, an amazing photographer, for teaching me how to see. This is a collection of my photographs from some of my travels.
